- Steps to Report Harassment -
- You have the right to a safe and harassment free workplace.
- You can inform your union of harassment at any step.
- You have the right to a support person of your choice at any step.
- When you are experiencing harassment, it is best to record all instances of any harassing behaviour including date, times, behaviors, people involved, and witnesses. It helps establish patterns of behaviour that can help you later if you so choose.
In the absence of a collective agreement, you follow company policies.

- If the harassment is from a customer -
1. Inform Management and/or Supervisor
Inform Supervisor or any member of Management of the bullying, harassment, or discriminating behaviour you experienced and its effect on you. If you have a solution, share it with them.
You have the right to ask what they are planning to do to rectify the situation, and when they are going to do it.
(Example: This guest was verbally abusive towards me, I feel personally harassed. I do not want to deal them anymore, or I want them to be removed from the premises. Now that I have told you about the situation, what are your plans to address the situation? Can you let me know what happens?)
- If the harassment is from a co-worker, supervisor, or management -
1. Direct Action
If you feel comfortable - you can bring the matter to the attention of the person you believe is harassing you, describe the behaviour to them and their effect, and ask the conduct to stop.
- You can do this verbally or in writing.
- You can be accompanied by someone you trust.
- You can ask management to speak with the person you believe is harassing you.
2. Informal Complaint Procedure
Inform a member of Management who is higher ranked than the harasser. They should inform you that you have three options:
- You can directly confront the harasser (step 1).
- You can ask management to attempt to fix the situation informally.
- You can make a formal written complaint.
You should also be provided with GCC's "Discrimination, Harassment & Bullying Prevention Policy".
You should also be informed of your right to be accompanied by a support person of your choice, at any stage of the complaint process.
3. Formal Complaint Procedure
There are many steps to the formal complaint procedure. To begin, the formal complaint must be in writing, using the complaint form, and it must be made within 6 months of the date from when the last incident occurred. This complaint should be sent to company's designate.
